Jhelum River Crosses Flood Mark in Srinagar, Possibility of Flood Alert in Jammu and Kashmir

Jhelum River Crosses Flood Mark in Srinagar, Possibility of Flood Alert in Jammu and Kashmir

Jhelum river has crossed the danger mark in Srinagar. Also, the water level in Sangam Pulwama has gone above the flood danger mark. Heavy floods are expected here.

Jammu and Kashmir has been facing heavy rains since last Tuesday. Conditions in many districts have become miserable. Due to heavy rains, floods, landslides and waterlogging have occurred. At the same time, the Jhelum river is flowing above the flood mark in Srinagar. All preparations are being made right now by issuing an alert from the administration. Evacuation of people has started. Floods are looming over many areas. 

Apart from Jhelum, the water level of Chenab river has also been recorded above the danger mark. The water level of Chenab is around 36.5 feet. 2.55 lakh cusecs of water has been discharged here. Jhelum river has also reached close to the danger mark at Sangam and Ram Munshi Bagh.

Heavy Traffic on the Highway

The tube of the highway has collapsed in the Gaulmela area of ​​Udhampur on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, due to which traffic is closed there. The Basohli road of Kathua has been closed for 12 days. At the same time, the Lakhanpur-Mahanpur road has not been opened for a month. Traffic is also closed on Zojila underpass and Mughal road due to landslides. 

House Collapsed due to Heavy Rain

An old house collapsed due to heavy rains in Jammu and Kashmir. Three people trapped in the house were rescued safely on Wednesday (September 3). The incident took place in Kali Jhaani Mohalla of Pakka Danga area. Police and local residents immediately started a rescue operation and safely evacuated the people trapped under the debris. 

Local MLA Yudhvir Sethi reached the spot and monitored the relief operations and urged the Deputy Commissioner to demolish old and dilapidated buildings in the area to ensure the safety of local people. In another incident, a building collapsed in the old city area. However, no casualties were reported.
